We landed in Rome, Italy at 9:45 am on Rome's June 21. Our bodies were thinking it was 12:45 am June 20! Quite a few didn't get much sleep...which made for some exhausted delegates before the day was over.
We met Amir...our delegation manager after getting our bags and going through passports. From there, we met Marzio, our Italian coach driver. We have a great team!!!!
Marzio!
Off to see the sights of Rome!
Marzio!
Amir!
Stopped at a light, people would come up to wash your windows...for a price, of course!
Vespas are ridden by so many...
Our first lunch together in Rome!
and then on to the Colosseum! What an amazing site! It was built over
2000 years ago...and could hold 50,000 people. Because the population
of Rome at that time was about a million, they had to add on to the
Colosseum ... It was the largest amphitheater in Roman Empire and...it
was originally covered in white plaster and frescoes! (as much as I've
heard about the Colosseum, I've never heard that!) Absolutely amazing!
We had Amber, our city guide, who walked us through it giving us some
of it's history. From there, we headed to the Roman Forum...
Fascinating ... It's so hard to fathom how old everything is... To
imagine all the people in history who walked those sites! The Roman
Forum to Italy would have been like Washington DC to us.
The Roman Forum
Dinner was our next stop and we were ready to call it a night. We had an early bedcheck...and some were already asleep before we got to their room!
What a day!
